Accessibility information

To help you plan and prepare for your visit, we’ve included some information below on the experience on the evening.
  • Just Be Normal is 60 minutes long, and there is no interval.
  • There is no dress code. Wear what you feel comfortable in – that can be shorts and sandals, formal-wear or anything in between.
  • The doors usually open about 15 minutes before the performance begins.
  • There is a bar in the foyer that will be open at the beginning and end of the performance, where you can purchase refreshments.
  • We are issuing programmes at the beginning of the performance for a donation of your choosing – no donation is too big or too small.
  • Just Be Normal is a two-woman play so there will only be two actors on stage.
  • An usher will help to seat the audience on arrival. If the usher suggests seating that you’re not comfortable with, please speak with them and they will do their best to suggest alternative seating.
  • Please do not take photos or recordings during the show.
  • You are free to eat and drink in the theatre if you’re comfortable to, but please be conscious of the fact that eating and drinking sounds may make some people uncomfortable.
  • There are a few times throughout the play when we play some potentially uncomfortable and loud sounds to accompany the action on stage. Please feel free to bring earplugs, headphones or earmuffs if you find noises and sounds difficult.
  • Theatre lighting can sometimes be difficult, so please feel free to wear sunglasses if you are sensitive to light.
  • At times in the play, the actors talk directly to the audience. Don’t worry, they’re not expecting you to answer back or interact with them. You can just sit back and enjoy their thoughts.
  • Try to be as considerate of other people’s different sensory needs as you would like them to be of yours.
  • Bring quiet fidget gadgets if they help and feel safe to use them freely. We don’t expect anyone to sit still, but we do ask for consideration for the people around you.
  • If you like chatting to strangers, but they don’t respond, then be kind – it’s not personal. Some people would prefer not to chat and expressing that through social niceties can be hard when you’re outside your comfort zone.
  • If you need to leave during the performance then you are free to do so. It’s fine to come back again too. You are not trapped in here, and you are not getting in the way of the performance if you need some space.
  • After around 60 minutes, Sophie gives Emma a present and the lights go out. This is the end of the play and the audience will applaud. If you’re sensitive to noise, you may want to cover your ears at the point. We’d love for you to make noise and applaud if you’re comfortable to at the end of the show.
  • Above all, please be considerate and kind.
  • If you have any worries or questions you would like to ask then you can write to the play’s producer Connor at connor.pearce@akimbo-community.com or direct message us on instagram @akimbo.community
